THE PROCESS OF CREATING A LIFE STORY ON VIDEO CAN BE BROKEN DOWN INTO THREE PRODUCTION STAGES: THE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER.
THE PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE
Initially, we will speak with our client(s) via phone, Skype, or in person. By way of preparation for the filming day, we will invite our clients to complete a questionnaire and draw a rough biographical timeline. Guidance materials and exemplars will be provided.
THE PRODUCTION STAGE
If convenient, we will meet with our client(s) in person the evening before the day of filming, where we will also arrange lighting and camera set-up
The “interview” will be as relaxed and informal as we can make it. We will use two identical 35mm Sony F3 video cameras but with different prime lenses. The images will be breath-taking and “filmic”. The main camera will capture a wide-angle view of the subject from the front, while the second camera will be at a right angle to the subject, capturing a medium close-up, head and shoulders side profile.
We will use a professional studio lighting kit and the standard interview set-up (key, fill, back and kicker lights) plus a set of gels, gobos and diffusers. That way, we’ll be able to create the illusion of a 3D image – using light and shadow creatively.
Any additional location shots and / or interviews will be incorporated over the following day or two.
THE POST – PRODUCTION STAGE
The third stage is where the magic happens. If it is a straightforward interview only, then we will edit in such a way as to maximise the creativity of the two camera angles and the occasional fade out. We will also incorporate titles and captions and ensure that the colours are vibrant.
Digitised photographs, converted cine films / video and other creative features will be woven seamlessly into the interview. We will also put down chapter markers in all of our Life Stories on Video, and make the timeline ready for export as both a DVD and an mp.4 file.
